1. Know Your Waste Type Before You Book
Different waste types attract different pricing. General household waste, green waste, and heavy waste (concrete, soil, bricks) are all priced differently. Being clear about your waste type upfront avoids surprises on collection day.
2. Choose One Size Larger Than You Think You Need
It's one of the most common mistakes — underestimating how much waste a project generates. When in doubt, go one size up. The small extra cost is far cheaper than hiring a second bin.
3. Check If You Need a Council Permit
If your skip bin will be placed on a public road or nature strip, you may need a permit from your local council. Placement on your own driveway or private property doesn't require a permit.
4. Never Overfill the Bin
Waste must sit at or below the top rim of the bin — not piled above it. Overloaded bins cannot be transported legally. If your bin is overfull, you'll need to remove the excess before we can collect.
5. Don't Put Prohibited Items In
Asbestos, chemicals, paints, tyres, and gas cylinders are prohibited in skip bins. Loading these items can result in significant extra charges and environmental penalties.
6. Plan Your Bin Placement
Think about where the bin will go before delivery day. It needs to be accessible for our truck — overhead clearance of at least 5 metres and enough room to manoeuvre. Clear the spot before we arrive.
7. Check the Hire Period
Standard hire at Jaykay Bin Hire is 7 days. If your project runs longer, extra days are available at a daily rate. Book your extension before the hire period ends to avoid the bin being collected early.
8. Heavy Waste Has Weight Limits
Concrete, soil, and bricks are very heavy. Even a 2m³ bin filled with concrete can exceed weight limits quickly. Use the right heavy waste bin and don't mix heavy materials with general rubbish — it affects the disposal cost.
9. Compare What's Included in the Price
Some providers quote delivery and pickup separately. At Jaykay Bin Hire, your quoted price includes delivery, hire period, pickup, and GST. What you see is what you pay.
